Bottle Design
Ramune is most famous for the shape of the bottle as well as the unique way the bottle is sealed. The bottle type is known as a Codd-neck bottle named after its inventer Hiram Codd. The pressure of the carbonated beverage is what keeps the marble inplace until an opener (always provided attached to the bottle) is used to push it down into the neck of the bottle. It rattles around plesantly tinking against the glass while drinking.
People often take a moment getting the hang of drinking the soda without the marble blocking the hole. I personally use a straw, but if the bottle is turned so the marble sits between the pinch in the neck you can drink it fine without a straw.
Fun Facts
The word Ramune is a phonetic spelling of the Japanese pronounciation of Lemonade. Trying saying it with a japanese accent its true! Dispite its cool bottle, this soda comes in pretty conventional flavors, but there are some unconventional ones also. Some of the more interesting ones I have seen are Lychee and Cucumber.
